RANGE AND CHARGING THE BMW i7.
DISCOVER THE ELECTRIC RANGE OF THE BMW i7.
Why does the range vary?
The respective range of an electric vehicle depends on various factors such as driving style, route conditions, vehicle equipment, weather conditions and payload.
In detail
High average speeds (motorway) reduce the range most significantly, while inner-city traffic leads to a higher range due to lower speed and higher recuperation shares (in contrast to vehicles with internal combustion engines). Furthermore, the range is reduced at low temperatures due to heating, and high temperatures with strong air conditioning. The vehicle load, for example the number of passengers carried as well as the amount of luggage, as well as optional equipment fitted to a vehicle can also impact the range. The selection of larger alloy wheel and tyre sizes generally reduces the range (if the aerodynamic disadvantage is not compensated for by a more closed wheel design). The rolling resistance class of tyres is also relevant for the range: e.g. the use of a winter tyre reduces the range compared to a Label A summer tyre.
General range specification and range values in this indicator
In the model selection, the communicated range is based on the WLTP (Worldwide harmonized Light-Duty Test Procedure) cycle.
WLTP enables a calculation of the range under prescribed driving conditions. WLTP assumes a defensive driving style with a route mix of city streets, country roads and highways.
The range indicator enables you to estimate the range based on the effect of three variable factors (Driving style, ambient temperature and use of air conditioning). The actual range achieved will depend on a number of other variable factors as set out in the ‘In detail’ section above.
The outer circle represents the calculated range value based on linear distances (not the actual street map), while the inner circle shows the calculated value -30% to take the real-world routes into account.
All range figures shown assume the battery has been fully charged.
What are the assumptions underlying the driving style settings?
Setting a “sporty” driving style assumes 100% driving at average motorway speeds, with more dynamic acceleration. The "economical" setting assumes defensive driving on country roads with an average speed of around 80 km/h. Settings in-between produce a mixture of both.
CHARGING TIMES FOR 100 KM RANGE.
Charging at home for a range of 100 km.
02:27h – Wallbox (7.4 kW)
05:01h – Optional Flexible Charging Cable (3.7 kW) on industrial socket
08:13h – Standard charging cable or optional Flexible Charging Cable (2.3 kW) on household socket
Charging on the road for a range of 100 km.
00:06 h – High-power charging station (max. vehicle charging capacity)
00:21 h – Fast charging station (50 kW)
00:48 h – AC charging station (max. vehicle charging capacity)
Most charging stations provide under 50kW and deliver slower charging times. Charging times are also affected by other factors, such as the battery temperature, condition and starting charge, vehicle equipment running during charging, the outside temperature and other factors. Stated charging times are based on optimum charging conditions. Charging over 80% slows to protect the battery. Network provider charges apply.
The calculation takes into account consumption and charging performance. Values refer to 29–33 degrees Celsius battery start and ambient temperature with certification values excluding additional auxiliary consumers such as seat heating, displays, air conditioning. Individual consumption may vary (depending on e.g. driving profile, temperature, ambient conditions) as well as the individually achievable charging performance (depending on e.g. battery state of charge, vehicle air conditioning). Consumption is based on WLTP best case. Charging performance is based on the maximum possible charging performance (depending on charging type and vehicle).
